Javelin - Oh! Centra
Javelin - On It On It
Javelin - Moscow 1980

Diverse, yet aimless electro-pop that's brimming with random samples, 8-bit-Nintendo-esque sound effects, and old-school hip hop loops. No Más has been on extra heavy rotation here at the offices of Liquid Jesus (man, I wish we actually had an office) and even after a couple months, it's still catchy enough to keep us dancing around like a bunch of giddy twelve year-old girls.

Mimicking Birds

Mimicking Birds - The Loop
Mimicking Birds - New Doomsdays
Mimicking Birds - Cabin Fever

Mimicking Birds, a Portland-based trio, were discovered by Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse and immediately placed onto his Glacial Pace imprint. Their debut & s/t album is a friggin' gem! There is a complete and utter tenderness to frontman Nat Lacy's warm-hearted and slippery voice. Full on fingerpicking, whispering alliteration and crystal-clear ambient lushness have turned this album into a spring time classic.

Stardeath and White Dwarfs

Stardeath and White Dwarfs - New Heat
Stardeath and White Dwarfs - I Can't Get Away
Stardeath and White Dwarfs - The March

Don't worry. I'm not even gonna start talking about all of the numerous connections/comparisons between Stardeath and White Dwarfs and the Flaming Lips because, frankly, I don't care. Simply put, this is wildly schizophrenic experimental rock tinged with fractured psychedelia and an overall sense of good ol' drugginess. C'mon - the last track on The Birth is called "Smoking Pot Makes Me Not Want To Kill Myself," so don't argue with me, ok?

Highly recommended.

Drink Up Buttercup

Drink Up Buttercup - Seasickness Pills
Drink Up Buttercup - Doggy Head

These dudes tore it down when I saw them live! Their catchy yet manic tunes are for sure a fun listen, as are their, I hate to say it, Beatles-esque vocal stylings. It's a bit of a schizophrenic album but if you parcel out a smidge of DUB here and a smidge of DUB there, it's pretty damn entertaining. RIYL all of the following: Dr. Dog, chimichangas, badass live RnR concerts and The Wire.

Solid Gold

Solid Gold - Get Over It
Solid Gold - Bible Thumper
Solid Gold - Synchronize

Solid Gold is already a top favorite amongst most of the Liquid Jesus affiliates, and you've probably heard at least one of us blather on and on (as we often do when we've been drinking) about how much we like them. But what's not to like? Bodies of Water is an album that's both multi-faceted and innovative, combining hauntingly soulful and hypnotic undercurrents with swirling, upbeat melodies and melancholic subject matter. It's also quite easy to dance to.

Holy Fuck

Holy Fuck - Red Lights
Holy Fuck - Latin America
Holy Fuck - Sht Mtn

We've gotta tell you the truth: we're absolutely crazy about any unnecessary and gratuitous use of expletives - especially when you've got the stones to actually use the momma of all swear-words as part of your band's name. You do that and you're probably gonna get a positive shout-out from us no matter what, but luckily, Holy Fuck has been a favorite of ours since the release of their second album, LP, in 2007. Now they're back with the same loop-heavy, ass-shaking, psychedelic goodness that caught our attention in the first place.

Latin will be released on May 11th, brought to you by Young Turks

The Hundred in the Hands

The Hundred in the Hands - Dressed in Dresden

We haven't figured out why this track hasn't made more of an appearance at all of the local dance-parties. Seems like it should be everywhere by now, since the combination of a crunchy, bassy synth, and an aggressive, staccato'ed guitar sound (ala Gang of Four and, sigh, Bloc Party) should be enough to win over anyone who wants to shake their ass to dance-punk/post-punk/whatever beats. We're predicting that whenever this one finally surfaces, it'll be around just long enough to be sandwiched (and then suffocated) between whatever overplayed Lady Gaga singles are hot at the moment.

The Hundred in the Hand's upcoming EP, This Desert, will be released on May 18th, courtesy of Warp

Millionyoung - Cynthia
Millionyoung - Mien
Millionyoung - Love Is All Around (Mary Tyler Moore Theme)

Terms like "sun-drenched" & "chillwave" have been thrown around on the 1's & 0's like nobody's business, when describing South FLA's Millionyoung. While some of this willy nilly verbiage does some justice to what our man Mike Diaz has cooking, it definitely doesn't do the trick for us. Listen, all I know is that these jams & the rest of his debut EP, Be So True make me wanna smell like Panama Jack, watch Dudley Moore movies & take a half day.

Tobacco - Fresh Hex (ft. Beck)
Tobacco - Sweatmother
Tobacco - Stretch Your Face

The one-sheet for Maniac Meat contains all sorts of tasty adjectives to describe the individual tracks on Tobacco's upcoming full-length... Things like, "glitch-riddled" and "warped banger" and "dubstep-dank" and "a hail of uncouth drums and aggressive fuzz." This kind of excessive use of colorful word-combos is kinda fun, so that's what we're gonna stick with to describe this one. We probably couldn't do a better job hyping it up, anyways. Besides, we're feeling little lazy today.

Maniac Meat will be released on May 25th, courtesy of Anticon.

Gayngs - Crystal Rope
Gayngs - Faded High

Supergroup-esque collab Gayngs features contributions from members of Liquid Jesus faves Solid Gold, the Rosebuds, and Megafaun, as well as peeps like Bon Iver, and Doomtree artists P.O.S. and Dessa. Huh? Needless to say, the result is less than predictable (as if you would even come close to figuring it out with this much diverse talent). Here's the skinny: Relayted makes us want to toss back a few tumblers of single-malt in a dimly-lit, smoky jazz club. That, and drugs - lots of drugs.

Highly recommended.

Relayted will be released on May 11th, via Jagjaguwar

Foals - Miami
Foals - Total Life Forever

It's not as if Foals have held back on this one, ok? They're just heading in a slightly different direction. Total Life Forever is a polished presentation of subtlety and precision, more of a crafted and well-honed approach than their previous LP, Antidotes. They're not showing restraint, they're just tossing out the acrobatics and feedback and settling in to something else.

Total Life Forever will be released on June 15th, courtesy of Sub Pop

The Black Keys

Let's be honest with each other for a second: I've wanted to grow a goatee my entire life... started off drawing goatees on all my WWF wrestler figurines and, soon to follow, in all my comic books. Low and behold, my DNA hasn't allowed that to become a reality, even into my 30s and that alone gives me great unhappiness. However, since coppin' Brothers, my new fantasy has been to rock a 'stache with a Carlito's Way-style leather trench and speed along in a model-T (sans breathalyzer) while the the Black Keys destroy my eardrums.

Highly recommended.

Brothers will be released on May 18th, via Nonesuch

Liquid Jesus Returns: Tonight!

HEALTH - In Heat (Javelin Remix)
HEALTH - Die Slow (Tobacco Remix)
HEALTH - Severin (Small Black Remix)

HEALTH returns with DISCO2: a sequel to the remix collection HEALTH//DISCO. You get the idea: another dose of the avant garde noise from Get Color, remixed by the likes of Javelin, Tobacco, Crystal Castles, Gold Panda, and more. It makes us feel dirty and we like it.

DISCO2 will be released on June 22nd, via Lovepump United

Trans AM

Trans AM - Naked Singularity
Trans AM - Arcadia
Trans AM - Apparent Horizon

Synth-pop/space-rock three-piece Trans AM are finally back in the game with their brand new record, Thing. This is menacing, cerebral, sci-fi rock - think Tron vs. Space Odyssey and vintage video games from the '80s. Who in their right mind would pass up that kind of delicious combo? Not me.

Thing will be released on April 20th, on Thrill Jockey

Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene - Texico Bitches
Broken Social Scene - Meet Me in the Basement

Drool. We admit it - we're big fans of Broken Social Scene, and the 5 long years since their 2005 self-titled release have been kinda lonely and downright empty without them. Yeah, we've been waiting a while for the upcoming Forgiveness Rock Record, and now that we've finally gotten our hands on a copy of it we can't stop singing along, no matter how much it embarrasses our girlfriends.

Forgiveness Rock Record will be released on May 4th, via Arts & Crafts
