Tony Castles

Tony Castles - Dream Job
Tony Castles - No Service

Been jamming on this 5 song EP for close to two weeks now; the lush textures and catchy-ass vocals keep this bad boy on repeat. This Brooklyn band with ties to Yeasayer, Dirty Projectors, and other notables, was recently tapped to hit the road with Jamie Lidell and Tom Tom Club.

No Service will be released on September 21st, courtesy of Famous Class

The Slew

The Slew - It's All Over
The Slew - You Turn Me Cold

It's been about a year since this massive Kid Koala-fueled, rock and turntablist combo collab was first officially released, and it's been a top favorite (and steady Liquid Jesus mainstay) ever since. Think one-of-a-kind, visceral vinyl-manipulation of booming, down-and-dirty blues-rock noise, and all of it pieced together so flawlessly that it quite effortlessly lives up its aptly-named 100% moniker.

Ra Ra Riot

Collectively, I'm fairly sure we'd all like to think of ourselves as a bit too much of a, uh... manly bunch to seriously dig the sugary-sweet indie-pop stylings of Ra Ra Riot and their new disc, but who are we kidding? We just can't help it. We've fallen hard for The Orchard, and its cutesy goodness galore combined with gorgeous cello/violin combos and some seriously catchy hooks makes us wanna eat it all up with a spoon and immediately head back in for seconds.

The Thermals

The Thermals - I Don't Believe You
The Thermals - Your Love Is So Strong

Whenever new rumors start surfacing about another Thermals record in the making, we get a bit lightheaded and a little giddy at the thought of even more of those hymns of caffeine-fueled/inspired urgency entering into the world. Now, with the release of Personal Life, The Thermals are offering up ten more of their patently poppy and oftentimes angsty anthems of love and lies (extra-heavy on both topics this time around), complete with the expected big, BIG chords and upbeat, driving bass. Yes, we like and we're pretty sure you will, as well.

Highly recommended.

Personal Life will be released on September 7th, courtesy of Kill Rock Stars

Guiltmaker - Looming

Our long-time, super-dooper good pals in Guiltmaker have just self-released a brand spankin' new EP, and as with all of their releases, we're pretty excited about it. Continuing on, and outward, after the majestic and downright epic Dilemmas full-length, The Emerald Coast contains more of that relentless bass and pummeling drums and haunting, delay-pedal-induced guitar intricacies that we've come to expect from our boys... and much like their previous efforts, when listened to as a whole, this EP is more of a series of continuous, orchestral-quality mini-opuses, structured around drawn-out and shifting movements, rather than interchangeable verses and choruses. Yeah, we're big fans, ok? as if you couldn't already tell.

Working For A Nuclear Free City

Working For A Nuclear Free City - B.A.R.R.Y
Working For A Nuclear Free City - Do A Stunt
Working For A Nuclear Free City - Little Lenin

We try not to do stuff like this but I'm completely out of time and can't concoct some lil' paragraph of descriptive BS... So, I'm just gonna drop some tracks and some quotes, and continue the parade of halfheartedness instead.

(quotes refer to the previously released Businessmen & Ghosts):
"...weave woozy atmospheres for an intoxicated ride home bathed in subway fluorescent or headlight halogen..." - Pitchfork

"...a brilliant musical journey through myriad genres and time, folding in elements of British Invasion, '70s rock, post-punk, baggy, electronica, space rock, and even Afro-beat." - AllMusic

Geographer - Kites

Serious synth-pop aficionados will surely fall head over heels for this gorgeous 6-song EP - that is, of course, if they haven't already... After months of charming its way into the waiting arms of adoring fans and critics alike (and garnering a good amount of praise along the way), Animals Shapes has just been re-released into the world - all official-like, to reintroduce its textural sounds that are bubbling over with dreamy melodies, meandering 8-bit synth, and lush, sweeping vocals.

Eternal Summers

Eternal Summers - I'll Die Young For Rock n Roll
Eternal Summers - Pogo

I gotta say - I'm pretty much over every single band that drops an album being called sun-drenched, beachy-pop, etc, etc... Simply put, these bands are all making lo-fi doo-wop, which makes a dude like me pretty happy. Virginia duo Eternal Summers does that and much, much more, separating themselves from the rest of the pack by being a bit more ambitious by knockin' out 90-second rockers like 'Pogo' and then intense 6-minute long hymns such as 'Bully In Disguise.'

Silver will be released on September 24th, via Kanine Records

Liquid Jesus Returns: Tonight!

This is Mollie (to "learn" more about her, click HERE) and as you can see, she is quite the Liquid Jesus fan. In an effort to show some kind of gratitude to her and the rest of our ever-supportive collection of drunken friends and family, we've created a nifty lil' Liquid Jesus gallery page in their honor. Take a look at it HERE.

Don't have your own Liquid Jesus t-shirt yet? Tampa area folks can purchase one TONIGHT (for only $10) at our monthly event, aptly named Liquid Jesus, at the Orpheum in Ybor City. We might even be giving a few away for free.

Liquid Jesus MixTape 01:02

LIQUID JESUS - MixTape 01:02

For the uninitiated, Colonic can be pretty unpredictable sometimes, to say the very least. Especially on those all-night-long-and-into-the-morning benders when he's throwing 'em back and telling the rest of us to "go fuck your mother" and then everyone wakes up in the morning with mysterious bruises and blood in our beards without too clear of an idea of what happened... and then Delach has to tell him, once again, "Um, you gotta remember that everything was really hazy for me as well, so I'm not too sure, either..." Well, Colonic put this month's Liquid Jesus MixTape together, and it'd probably be best to keep that scenario in mind while you're listening to it, ok? Full tracklist is available after the jump. Enjoy.

aKido - Instantine
aKido - Radium Girls

Gamechanger might seem like an overly-ambitious and somewhat overreaching album title, and while we're not gonna be the ones to establish or dispute the requirements of what 'changing the game' is comprised of, we will say - loud and clear, that this diverse collection of gorgeous experimental electro rock (especially with its richly textured beats and shimmering melodies, and a whole slew of interwoven, atmospheric samples) has got what it takes to at least set itself far apart from the rest.

Three Mile Pilot

Three Mile Pilot - What's In The Air

The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten is the first proper full-length of new material that semi-legendary post-rock outfit Three Mile Pilot has recorded in a long time... And while their more-than-a-decade-long hiatus helped birth and then nurture along other member-related projects (such as faves Pinback and the inimitable Black Heart Procession), we're pretty goddamned happy to see them back at it again, all hauntingly soulful and seductive-like, after all these years.

The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten will be released on September 28th, courtesy of Temporary Residence Ltd.

Crocodiles - Mirrors
Crocodiles - All My Hate and My Hexes Are For You

It appears that the flag has been firmly placed into the ground, and art-punk is back! San Diego duo, Crocodiles, has pumped out a beast of a follow-up to their debut album, Summer of Hate (which, of course, has been a favorite of ours for a while now). Sleep Forever still has that romantic shoegaziness that curves you throughout each song, but the organs and dubbiness blow the dust off the vintage equipment and releases a pure blast of addictive escapism.

Sleep Forever will be released on September 14th, via Fat Possum

Les Savy Fav

Les Savy Fav - Dirty Knails
Les Savy Fav - Calm Down

See, now it's a proper party, and rightfully so… Now that the highly anticipated Root For Ruin has finally arrived. Look, I think we're finally ready to give in and ride this booming and delirious energy all the way to wherever it'll take us - and that'll be pretty goddamn easy with this one, since these new Les Savy Fav tracks contain the same electrifying/massive guitar choruses, pummeling drums, and anthemic (and strangely insightful, albeit mostly tongue-in-cheek) vocals/lyrics that the band is known for. Believe me when I tell you it's a party from start to finish, and we expect you here with us - I mean, who's gonna pass on a party? Not me.

Skream - Fields of Emotion
Skream - Wibbler

Outside the Box is a fairly fitting album title for this varied collection of electronic tracks, courtesy of wunderkind dubstep producer Skream. This disc features a generous dose of semi-heavy-hitter collaborators, ala La Roux and Murs (and more), and it sure as hell hinges on the obligatory wave of producer-patented two-step beats coupled with robust bass... But have no fear - its sound also shares the stage with and alongside a whole slew of signature snares, innovative ambient synth, and a bit of the good ol' wobble-wobble.

Outside the Box will be released on August 10th, courtesy of Tempa

Freddie Gibbs

Freddie Gibbs - Personal OG
Freddie Gibbs - Oil Money *

Gary, Indiana's gangster-rapper Freddie Gibbs has an all-star cast on his 2nd single, "Oil Money" - including Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, and it bumps. Freddie talks about rolling blunts, drinking RedBull & Hennessy, and bangin' out bitches... some our faves as well, Fred!

* w/ Chuck Inglish, Chip Tha Ripper, Bun B, and Dan Auerbach

The Str8 Killa EP is available courtesy of Decon Records

Lorn - Paradise Lost
Lorn - Requiem

Man, we just can't get enough of Lorn and his seemingly endless supply of hauntingly dystopian soundtrack-worthy beats, even after the last couple of months spent listening to the epic and recently-released full-length, Nothing Else… So, due to popular demand, and to satisfy our own very real needs, we're indulging in a lil' bit more of that slightly disturbing yet oh-so-catchy style of menacing glitch-hop vs. dubstep aesthetics. Join us.

PVT - Light Up Bright Fires
PVT - Church With No Magic
PVT - Window

Previously known as Pivot, and then renamed/reincarnated (but, presumably, still pronounced the same), PVT appropriately makes itself right at home within the umbrella-like Warp Records catalogue, fitting in simply by not fitting in, alongside other hard-to-describe label-mates, such as Nice Nice or Born Ruffians. Church With No Magic is a suitably weird/wandering release for such a mysteriously driven and diverse act - one that seems to refuse even the mere possibility of a pigeonhole, and skirting any type of commitment to a categorized sound.

Church With No Magic will be released on August 10th, courtesy of Warp

El-P - Whores: The Movie
El-P - Meanstreak (In 3 Parts)
El-P - How To Serve Man (Stripped)

Beat alchemist El-P further flexes his eclectic and sometimes-sci-fi-tinged production muscles with this third installment of the Weareallgoingtoburninhell mixtape series, and as you would probably expect, this instrumental mix contains more of the wildly innovative and often-times downright bizarre beats that the producer is known for... and when listened to in its entirety, this disc tends to evoke a slightly skewed and eerily apocalyptic vision - and that's just the kinda thing the Liquid Jesus associates can rightfully get down to.

Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 will be released on August 3rd, courtesy of Gold Dust Media
