The Swiss

The Swiss - Soap Opera
The Swiss - Bubble Bath

We gotta give it up to the peeps over at Modular Records for constantly puttin' out some of the absolute finest new music. Getting that out of the way, this Australian trio is a full-on disco band and we say that with a fervor that's even hard for us to understand.

Bubble Bath Vinyl EP is available via Modular Records

RJD2

RJD2 - The Perfect Occasion
RJD2 - Might As Well Step Forward

Perhaps it's best if we just consider this a companion disc to the just previously released album the Colossus, rather than simply describe it as an 'instrumental version,' because it's not quite that... I mean, it does have several vocal-less versions of tracks from its predecessor, but it's also got a few brand new bangers as well... Whatever you want to call it, as with all RJD2 releases, this one quickly won us over with its impressive top-notch production, massive horn/drum combos, samples, and soul.

Inversions of the Colossus is available via RJ's Electrical Connections

Deastro

Deastro - Pastor Kid Redux Edition
Deastro - Mowgli the Lynx

What a treat this one is, showing up all unexpected-like... Deastro's brand spankin' new collection, Mind Altar (lovingly compiled from previous one-offs and misc. projects and rereleased by the always inimitable Ghostly International), is the digital-only follow up to last years sweepingly frenetic, electronic pop masterpiece, Moondagger, and while this EP quite noticeably delves into strange new territory, musically, it's still just as glowingly explosive as its predecessor. Yeah, we dig it, alright? and we think you might as well.

The Mind Altar EP is available digitally, via Ghostly International

!!!

!!! - AM/FM
!!! - The Hammer

However you prefer to pronounce or interpret the name, !!! is back, ok? and the new disc, Strange Weather, Isn't It?, has already started settin' those hearts a-flutter everywhere. I'm sure you know what to expect with this one: more drunken disco dance-punk with boomin' beats and a seriously sexy swagger that doesn't shy away from experimental hooks, crafty synth effects, and funk-inspired melodies. See you on the dance-floor, kiddos.

Strange Weather, Isn't It? will be released on August 24th, courtesy of Warp

Jamaica

Jamaica - Short And Entertaining
Poney Poney - Cross The Fader

Jamaica, the next generation of Parisian electronic New Wave have recently dropped a single co-produced by Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay, I Think I Like U 2, but we wanted to share some other tunes that they've released on a French Comp and another bare-bones track recorded when they were still known as Poney Poney. While the pair is clearly Phoenix-influenced, these party starters show us some real skill and promise.

Jamaica is rumored to be releasing a debut, via V2 Records, later this year.

Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood - Swim (Alpaca Remix by Allen Blickle of Baroness)

It's almost as if the ultra-meticulous and overly critical Liquid Jesus sense of aesthetics was specifically taken into careful consideration for this one, huh? With an almost too perfectly tailored ironic-yet-frighteningly-fitting take on classic Saville cover-art and backed with a uncharacteristically tweaked/fuzzed-out Allen Blickle remix, newly minted indie-pop darlings Surfer Blood know exactly how to jazz up an already deliciously poppy single, and they do it so so well. It doesn't get much tastier than this.

The Swim 7" is available via Rough Trade courtesy of Kanine Records

The Time and Space Machine

The Time and Space Machine - Set Phazer to Stun
The Time and Space Machine - Zeitghost

We're not afraid. Set Phazer to Stun is a real big and real potent dose of relentless, pummeling psych sounds - complete with wailing organs and bubbling electronica and aimless, dripping soundscapes that evoke both warped futuristic fantasies as well as '60s-esque era flashbacks. After all, Delach did say, "Fuck it, let's get really weird with this thing…" and that's exactly what we're gonna do.

Set Phazer to Stun is available via Tirk Recordings

Mux Mool

Mux Mool - Skulltaste
Mux Mool - Get Better John
Mux Mool - Death 9000 (Prof & P.O.S. Broadcasting Version)

For a while now, we've been chomping at the bit to find the perfect moment to shout-out Mux Mool and this genre-defying instrumental collection of electro beats, hip hop breaks, and quirky, 8-bit video-game hooks, (all culled and layered from a massive palette of roaming, eclectic influences that are as equally nostalgic as they are strangely tough to pin down - and Skulltaste quickly blurs all lines of distinction between them) and now's as good a time as any, I suppose.

Skulltaste is available courtesy of Ghostly International

Oberhofer

Oberhofer - Don'tneedya

We thought the press-release laced up this dude's story well enough so we're jacking that too... check it: "When your songs are too big to be contained: form a band. Maybe call it after your family name because you like the way it sounds (sh*t, if it worked for Bon Jovi then who’s to argue). Record those songs in the basement of your parents house in Tacoma. When that burns down, shake it off and move to New York. Find a new band to play with, start working on a symphony (no really, do it), mix your newfound formal training with the noisy exuberance of youth. Get raucous."

o0O0o0O0o will be self-released on August 3rd

Golden Ages

Golden Ages - Everything Will Be Alright
Golden Ages - Africa (Toto)

We've been sold on Golden Ages for a while now, and especially so after experiencing the dreamy, electro-pop/psychedelic goodness off the debut full-length, Tradition, but we've gotta tell you… It shows some balls to follow it up by releasing a complimentary EP with a title-track cover of Toto's 'Africa' and do so without a single hint of irony in the tribute. The track actually does the original quite a bit of justice, without compromising on the reinterpretation, of course, and it's completely fucking beautiful and exceptionally well done to boot...

We're impressed, ok? Well done. Well done, indeed.

Big Freedia

Big Freedia - Yall Get Back Now
Big Freedia - Rock Around The Clock
Big Freedia - Azz Everywhere

So our main man and comrade in arms RIG hipped us to this a couple of months ago and boy, is it GAY! New Orleans bounce has been killin' it for some time now and the newest little wrinkle has been deemed Sissy Bounce. I guess I should write some more about this utter brilliance, but I'm just gonna let the music sell itself.

Passion Pit

LINKS REMOVED

We know this one is kind of a cop-out, seeing as how it only took a little more than 12 short months for Passion Pit to go from precious, underground electro-pop darlings to semi world-renown indie superheroes, and we know we won't be breaking any new ground while we're gushing over them like everyone else does... but we still dig 'em, ok? As Colonic says, when it comes down to it, "the proof is in the pudding," (or whatever that means) and no matter how much these guys continue to outgrow those intimate, mid-level venues and their indie-cred britches to boot, there will always be a special place in our hearts for them, no matter what.

Lorn

Lorn - Void I
Lorn - Cherry Moon

Here's another Brainfeeder release that's quickly found a home within the somewhat semi-regular Liquid Jesus rotation. This ominous, atmospheric collection is absolutely packed with elements of experimental electro/dub combos, creeping stutter-step, and abstract hip-hop beats, and it's just as cerebral and swirlingly intricate as it is harsh and visceral and booming. Also, Delach just won't shut up about it.

Fake Drugs

Fake Drugs - Balancing Act
Fake Drugs - Lens Flare

Look, I consider myself a professional when it comes to listening to weird shit and I still get a little queasy from the dark and subvertly sexual/self-indulgent dirty disco-pop stylings of Fake Drugs. Much like the recent self-titled Guidance Counselor album (Liquid Jesus acknowledgements are HERE if you're interested), this is a collection of raw, distorted, electro-punk noise, and it's perfect to get sweaty to, and then maybe a lil' sloppy, and dance yr ass off to while under the influence of, well, very real drugs. Not for the faint of heart, or for those who might take themselves a bit too seriously.

Drake Fugs is available via Old Wave Records

Liquid Jesus Storefront

The t-shirts are in and the storefront is now live, so we're finally ready to accommodate all of your Liquid Jesus fashion needs. Visit the newly created shop HERE and let us know what you think!

If you're lucky enough to live in the Tampa Bay area, then you're lucky enough to get one of these bad boys practically any time your little heart desires. For Tampa peeps, these shirts are only $10 with paid cover to any upcoming Liquid Jesus monthly event at the Orpheum in Ybor City. If a $3 cover and 2-for-1 Everything special isn't enough to get you to come on out, then maybe a chance to purchase quality apparel on the cheap will pique your interest.

General Elektriks

General Elektriks - Take Back The Instant
General Elektriks - Little Lady

These funky lil' electro-pop treats were just recently rediscovered upon returning from getting a Jamie/Red-Bull refill and learning that I only had 22 secs before an abrupt ending of a Get Em Mamis banger was about to send dead air throughout the club. Luckily, the bass on 'Little Lady' dropped just in time to keep the vibe flowin' and allow me a gulp of the bevie in hand. Cheers! and here's to the hope that these jams somehow save your day the way they did mine.

Brothertiger

Brothertiger - Feel
Brothertiger - Lovers

We recently discovered these Brothertiger tracks floating around the internet and quickly fell for the cool combination of multiple layered looped beats and atmospheric melodies found on Vision Tunnels. This is dreamy synth-pop at its best and it's perfect for accessorizing these humid summer nights with a much-needed dose of fuzzed-out goodness. Need a bonus reason to check this out? Chris Mes wholeheartedly approves of this one. He told me so himself.

Vision Tunnels is self-released and is available via Brothertiger

Hooray For Earth

Hooray For Earth - Surrounded By Your Friends

It's such a shame. We're all particularly fond of this little gem of an EP, yet up until this very moment we've neglected to properly announce our affection for it. Hooray For Earth and their irresistible up-tempo '80s pop/new wave-esque influences have been a Liquid Jesus fave for months now, and we just can't seem to get these deliciously catchy tracks out of our heads, but you wouldn't know it because, well, we've forgotten to say so. Which, of course, is really strange 'cause it's usually hard to get us to shut up about these things.

Arcade Fire

LINKS REMOVED

These two new tunes haven't really been in the Liquid Jesus rotation long enough for us to get a good sense of 'em, but we figured that they'll probably tickle someone else's fancy real nice-like. This single and its accompanying track are both precursors to the third Arcade Fire full-length, and we're fairly sure that thing's gonna be a pretty big deal amongst the kids, so make sure to let us know what you think.

The Suburbs full-length will be released on August 3rd, courtesy of Merge Records

Free The Robots

Free The Robots - Wandering Gypsy
Free The Robots - Granite Rock

Hell yes. We dug this one back out of the digital crates 'cause we just can't get enough of Free The Robots' wild bombardment of hip hop/dubstep influences and fuzzed-out, electronic swagger - all of it set to chunky beats and a nasty, wobbly low-end that slowly meanders around and throughout the heavy synth and glitch. Ctrl Alt Delete rattles and hums with an eerily futuristic, sci-fi aesthetic and it would frighten the shit out of us if it wasn't so goddamn infectious and steeped in nod-your-head-and-pound-your-fist brilliance.
