The Kills

The Kills - Future Starts Slow
The Kills - Heart Is A Beating Drum

The indefinite hiatus of The Dead Weather cues up the long-awaited re-entry of The Kills with their brand new LP, Blood Pressures (a beautifully produced and texturally ambitious album loaded with ominous guitar work, crashing drums, and haunting lyrics... and balanced out fairly nice-like with a slew of impossibly catchy melodies and some real sexy swagger), and after, what? - three long years now since their last release, I'd say it's right about time.

Blood Pressures will be released on April 5th, courtesy of Domino

Broken Bells

Broken Bells - Meyrin Fields

Here's the short but sweet follow-up release to last year's critically-acclaimed eponymous Broken Bells LP, featuring the delectable Danger Mouse and James Mercer combo/collab. But you knew that already, right? It's four more satisfying songs of catchy, electro-pop goodness that'll hopefully prove to be a quick lil' stop gap between the first album and its impending sophomore full-length successor.

The Meyrin Fields EP will be released on March 29th, courtesy of Broken Bells

Starfucker & Casiokids: Tonight!

Those of you who can actually tolerate all of the drunken conversations with the Liquid Jesus crew probably already know just how excited we all are about this show. I'm sure we've all blathered on and on about it enough (you can read all about our love affair with Starfucker HERE), so go ahead and do yourself a huge favor by coming out tonight. You won't regret it (unless you're a complete douchebag), I promise.

Starfucker & Casiokids + Special Guests
Doors at 9:00 • $8/10 • 18+
Crowbar: 1812 N. 17th St. • Tampa, FL

Bibio - Wake Up!
Bibio - Take Off Your Shirt

With Mind Bokeh, experimental electronic artist Bibio introduces a whole slew of new tracks while blurring genres so effectively that it's kinda difficult to figure out how to quickly describe the disc as a whole... So I won't even attempt it, because, well, I'm feeling a little lazy tonight, and I'm also a little bit drunk. The point is, the result - while slightly and decidedly off-kilter, is delightfully quirky and fun as fuck to listen to, as long as you're not afraid of pushing your musical palate to its breaking point, and doing so all in one sitting.

Mind Bokeh will be released on March 29th, courtesy of Warp

Morning Teleportation

Morning Teleportation - Just A Figment
Morning Teleportation - Expanding Anyway

One of those bands that would completely slay you if seen live. "Morning Teleportation is a five-piece psychedelic band based out of Portland, Oregon. They create a high-energy, tripped-out dance-off and sing-along using energeticinstrumentation that includes banjo, talkbox, synthesizer, trumpet, and theremin." Christ! Sign me up, and I'll have two Grey Goose & sodas, extra limes... hello spring time!

* For the locals: Morning Teleportation will be performing on Monday, March 28th at New World Brewery in Ybor City

Expanding Anyway is available courtesy of Glacial Pace Recordings

Timber Timbre

Timber Timbre - Bad Ritual
Timber Timbre - Black Water

Timber Timbre churns out some moody, bluesy folk-rock ballads that are tinged with ghostly atmospherics, crooning vocals (coupled with some eerie/obscure lyrics), and stark, meandering, creeping beats. Think haunting lounge music with a slightly melancholic edge and some serious soulful aesthetics. Listen to this on repeat in a smoky basement bar with a Tom Collins or sloe gin fizz to really get down with the nitty-gritty of this album, ok?

Highly recommended.

Creep On Creepin' On will be released on April 5th, courtesy of Arts and Crafts

Obits - You Gotta Lose
Obits - Killer

I bet the members of Obits probably get awfully tired of hearing the names of their past musical endeavors (Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Edsel, etc.) in all of the silly little write-ups about their new album, especially when those reviews revolve around meticulous musical comparisons instead of just a simple mention as a reference point or name-drop. Or something. All I know is that Moody, Standard, and Poor is Obits' aggressive and vitriolic garage-rock-induced follow-up to the 2009 debut, I Blame You, and it's got just as much grit and growl and incessant pummeling as you'd probably expect.

Moody, Standard, and Poor will be released on March 29th, courtesy of Sub Pop

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Livin' In The Jungle
Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Booty City

Oh, shit. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears have got a smokin' hot and incredibly fun/frenetic sophomore album on their hands with the new Scandalous full-length, and it's packed full of foot-stompin' tunes that make me wanna boogie in a real serious way, ok? This thing howls out loud and boasts some pretty excellent, and authentic, southern soul jams without seeming imitative or antiquated... Man, oh, man - I'm really diggin' this one, guys, and I hope you will, too.

Sin Fang

Sin Fang - Because Of The Blood
Sin Fang - Sing From Dream

Icelandic solo-project Sin Fang combines eclectic electronic elements with multi-layered vocal choruses, samples, strings, and an abundance of catchy beats to craft his art - and the result is an album chock full of gorgeous pastoral indie-pop tracks that are equally beautiful and, well, kinda strange (in a good way), respectively. The meandering, overwhelmingly blissed-out atmospherics that envelope Summer Echoes through and through just might make it the perfect companion-piece for the long-awaited string of lazy summer afternoons ahead of us. That, and an ice-cold beer, of course.

Summer Echoes is available courtesy of Morr Music

Tyler, The Creator

Lately, Colonic's been diggin' on L.A. hip hop crew/collective Odd Future (like, who isn't these days?), so I figured I'd tickle his fancy and post up this dope video for Tyler, the Creator's first single off the upcoming Goblin full-length. In the meantime, there's a fucking slew of their other recordings floating around, and most of it is available for free on the OFWGKTA site. Check it out HERE

Gayngs - Coercion Van (MK Larada regrind)
Gayngs - Sand In The Lotion (Cecil Otter regrind)

If you've been paying any attention, you might have noticed us blathering about our big-boy-esque crush on multi-contributor collaboration Gayngs in the past, so just imagine how excited we were about the outstanding Relayted full-length getting its bits 'n' pieces reinterpreted and reassembled by members of the Doomtree collective… and then released out into the world as Affiliyated. Normally, we try to steer clear of the cut and paste maneuver, but if you're interested, more info is available after the jump.

Affiliyated is available in its entirety as a FREE download, courtesy of Doomtree. Click HERE to get it.

Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino - Not Going Back
Childish Gambino - Freaks And Geeks

Colonic sez: "Sometimes I feel like my entire life is made up of one long string of guilty pleasures. Well, the shit-show continued when I saw the video for "Freaks and Geeks," which made me immediately look into what else young MC/Comedian (holmes is on Community) Donald Glover had released. While some of this doesn't necessarily hit my sweet spot, the jams that do have me bouncing off my freshly painted four walls and reaching for my container of Northern Lights." Let's go!

Dum Dum Girls & Tennis: Tonight!

Dum Dum Girls

As if you were actually gonna miss out on seeing lo-fi, garage-pop sweethearts Dum Dum Girls with Tennis (and more) perform live at the Orpheum, here's another reason to shake off that hangover and show your face out in public again: The entire Liquid Jesus crew will be playing music in between sets this evening and there's a really good chance that we'll be drinking just as much as usual (including Ms. Mollie Gondi, who's been extra hyped on this show for weeks now), in spite of it being a Sunday and all... So come on out and join us, ok?

Dum Dum Girls + Tennis, La Sera, and Dirty Beaches
Doors at 6:30 • $12/15 • All Ages!
The Orpheum: 1902 N. Avenue Republica de Cuba • Tampa, FL

Brothertiger - Back To Us

We spent a considerable amount of time last year fawning over synth-pop mastermind Brothertiger and his short, but definitely sweet Visions Tunnels EP (you can see what we said about it HERE), and needless to say, it left us pretty damn hungry for more. Think fuzzed-out, '80s-influenced dream-beats with synthy goodness and overlaid silky-smooth vocals, and boy, oh, boy! - does the new Point Of View EP (alas, just as short as its predecessor, but also just as delicious) ever satisfy those cravings.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Does It Offend You, Yeah? - We Are The Dead
Does It Offend You, Yeah? - Yeah!

Semi-pretentious moniker aside (and this coming from a bunch of douche-bags who dub themselves Liquid Jesus...), Does It Offend You, Yeah? churns out some real visceral and infectious dance-punk that's both obnoxiously innovative and deliciously alcohol-inspired. It's easy to get carried away while listening to the new disc, Don't Say We Didn't Warn You, I know, but try a little harder to not spill my beverage next time, ok, asshole? You know who you are.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You will be released on March 15th, via The End

Ra Ra Riot: Tonight!

Ra Ra Riot

We know exactly what you're thinking... The only thing that could make tonight's show (featuring pop cutie-pies Ra Ra Riot and the up-and-coming, spaced-out indie darlings The Luyas) even more savory of an experience, would be if Liquid Jesus commando Colonic (aka Old Man Hangover) took to the digital decks for the evening to provide the warm-up tuneage while you're waiting for the live acts. Well, you're in luck, buddy, and tonight's the night so don't miss out!

Ra Ra Riot + The Luyas and Sleepy Vikings
Doors at 8:00 • $13/15 • All Ages!
Crowbar: 1812 N. 17th St. • Tampa, FL

Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx

Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx - NY Is Killing Me
Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx - Running (instrumental)

Jamie xx pairing up with Gil Scott-Heron to remix/reinterpret I'm New Here has produced We're New Here (get it?), and man, is it one interesting and musically ambitious collaboration… Scott-Heron's raspy, spoken-word recitations coupled with Jamie xx's plethora of samples, styles, and experimental re-workings can take a little getting used to (and truth be told - some of the material is interesting simply because of its immediate strangeness), but ultimately We're New Here is a nifty lil' album serving up two great tastes that taste great together.

Tennis - Pigeon
Tennis - South Carolina
Tennis - Seafarer

The tradition of going overseas after college completely manifests itself in this sweet lil' duo who voyaged into the Northern Atlantic after receiving degrees in Philosophy. The album is submerged in indie tenderness and doo-wop harmonies, much like glistening in a spring sunset with sand all up in your bits & pieces. Cape Dory has been a guilty pleasure of ours for a while now; with one of its tracks finding a home on the LJ Mixtape 01:02 way back in August.

Cape Dory is available via Fat Possum
