Liquid Jesus MixTape 02:03

LIQUID JESUS - MixTape 02:03

Wait a minute - what the fuck is happening here!? Another Liquid Jesus MixTape? Yes, please! This edition* is brought to you by mix-master extraordinaire and brand spankin' new LJ recruit, Mr. Mes McDonald. We know it's only been one short week since the last Liquid Jesus mix, but Mes put together such a tasty lil' slice of goodness that we just couldn't resist putting it up immediately. Plus! Make sure to catch our boy while he's DJing the Antiwarpt Music Festival as half of the infamous/inimitable Crate Brothers, at Sake Bomb, 10pm-11pm. Welcome to the team Mes! Full tracklist is available after the jump. Enjoy.

Crystal Antlers

Crystal Antlers - Jules' Story
Crystal Antlers - Seance

Garage-rock/psych-punk Crystal Antlers have always been nothing if not unapologetic and unforgiving and almost purposefully/outwardly reluctant to confine themselves into any genre-specific range of sound - especially with the release of the gritty-yet-sophisticated sophomore full-length, Two-Way Mirror, with its relentlessly distorted and psychedelic-tinged aesthetics that will undoubtably challenge and confound any would-be listener... and truth be told, that's only one of the many reasons we dig 'em.

Two-Way Mirror is available HERE

Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man - So American
Portugal. The Man - Everything You See (Kids Count Hallelujahs)

More feel-good, psychedelic rock anthems from Portugal. The Man on the brand new In The Mountain In The Cloud... but what else would you expect, eh? How 'bout gorgeous, impossibly intricate melodies, and a palette of tasty glam-guitar licks and synth arrangements and fun-as-all-get-out sing-along choruses? Plus, deliciously weird album artwork that accurately illustrates the hallucinogenic, fever-dream quality of the music found within? Yeah, it's got all of that as well.

In The Mountain In The Cloud is available HERE

The Bright Light Social Hour

The Bright Light Social Hour - Shanty
The Bright Light Social Hour - Back And Forth

Austin rockers The Bright Light Social Hour have already made a name for themselves with their manic, rip-roaring, incendiary live shows, and Bay-area folks should know this - especially after they just about tore the goddamned roof offa Crowbar back in May at WMNF's Tropical HeatWave. For the unfortunately uninitiated, think infectious, groove-filled, funk-inspired swagger - laden with clamorous guitars and riddled with electric piano. Truth be told, this is one raucous rollercoaster of noise, and it's not to be missed out on, ok?

Highly recommended.

* For the locals: The Bright Light Social Hour will be performing this year's Antiwarpt Music Festival at the State Theatre stage on Saturday, July 30th

Liquid Jesus MixTape 02:02

LIQUID JESUS - MixTape 02:02

Earlier this month, we brought our favorite lil' boo, Darrell Darrell, into the fold (all official-like), and look at that! - he' already put together a Liquid Jesus MixTape full of some of the tunes he's been diggin' on these days. Darrell sez it's "perfect for driving alone at night while burning a bone," and it's exactly that kinda attitude that makes us wonder why we didn't recruit him into the full-time family much, much sooner. Welcome Darrell! Full tracklist is available after the jump. Enjoy.

Metronomy - Corinne
Metronomy - The Look

UK-based electronic-pop group Metronomy will be releasing their third record in the US on July 26th. Coming from Because Music (Justice, Charlotte Gainsbourg) and Big Beat/Atlantic, this band is amazing. A concept album dedicated to the English Riviera - this will be your summertime best friend. Make a pitcher of margaritas, play hooky, and maybe do a couple laps around the community pool to get yourself ready.

Little Dragon

Little Dragon - Ritual Union (Maya Jane Coles remix)
Little Dragon - Shuffle A Dream

Oh hell yeah. Intoxicating hooks, bouncing beats, soul-inspired electronic melodies, sexy sexy vocals, and plenty of danceable quirks to send some for real shivers down the spine - Little Dragon absolutely shines on Ritual Union and we know more than a few peeps out there who squeal like a bunch of preteen schoolgirls at the mere thought of 'em... So there... For even more Lil' Dragon, check out the extraordinary SBTRKT album for bonus sexy, collab goodness.

Highly recommended.

Ritual Union will be released on July 26th, courtesy of Peacefrog

Thundercat - Daylight
Thundercat - Jamboree

So far, the only issue we've had with groove-wizard Thundercat and his superb debut full-length, The Golden Age Of The Apocalypse, is the matter of how to accurately describe the Brainfeeder alum's music/style... Eclectic, funk-inspired beats and sexy, futuristic-styled electronic jazz? Or creepy baby-makin' music to make creepy babies to? Your choice, guys. We're kinda diggin' both.

The Golden Age Of The Apocalypse will be released on August 30th, via Brainfeeder

Wugazi - Sleep Rules Everything Around Me
Wugazi - Shame On Blue

Here's another (see HERE for the neato Gayngs reassembly effort we posted a while back) dope-as-fuck freebie from those crafty lil' bastards at Doomtree. Props go out to Cecil Otter and his partner in crime, Swiss Andy, for having the stones (and ingenuity) to chop/edit and rework Wu-Tang acapellas over/into Fugazi instrumental greatness. Hell yes!, it's as quirky and killer as it sounds.

Soft Metals

Soft Metals - Psychic Driving
Soft Metals - Eyes Closed

Synth-pop duo Soft Metals crafts danceable, new-wavey, electronic hymns that are heavy on the retro-rrific analogue, er… synth-pop/disco sound. Mix in some very lovely hypnotic vocals with an obligatory '80s-esque series of bleeps and bloops swirling every which way, and the result is an album steeped in both satisfyingly nostalgic yet oddly futuristic overtones.

The self-titled Soft Metals full-length will be released on July 19th, courtesy of Captured Tracks

The Sheepdogs

The Sheepdogs - I Don't Know

This right here sounds like some real bible-belt rock 'n' roll! However, these beardos come from western Canada and revive that whole Allman Bros./Crosby, Stills, Nash + Young style tuneage.

Learn & Burn is available courtesy of The Sheepdogs

The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob - Warrior Concerto

We Can Make The World Stop just got its official release today and it's picture-perfect timing for all you local folks, seeing as how The Glitch Mob is performing tomorrow evening at The Imperial Theatre at Czar down in Ybor City (with Liquid Jesus faves Phantogram + Com Truise). Don't be fooled. This might be a quickie of an EP, but it features three massive tracks sure to get all of y'all juiced up to see these boys live. Don't sleep.

We Can Make The World Stop is available via Glass Air and The Glitch Mob

Sebastian - Love In Motion (ft. Mayer Hawthorne)
Sebastian - Arabest
Sebastian - C.T.F.O. (ft. M.I.A)

Cutting his teeth remixing the likes of Daft Punk and Justice, French electro-disco producer Sebastian recently released Total, a veritable auditory smorgasbord of styles... "A maximalist dance music built on bloodletting hard cuts, syncopated lacerations, one-chord funk stabs, and the ever-reliable coup de grĂ¢ce of a rhythmic breakdown sliced against swaths of tinnitus drone."

Total is available courtesy of Ed Banger Records

Memory Tapes

Memory Tapes - Sun Hits
Memory Tapes - Trance Sisters

Steeped in swirling-all-around-you, rambling dance-pop, Player Piano is a delightfully catchy lil' release from Memory Tapes - and one that's intoxicating, dreamy, and wonderfully hypnotic, to boot. The ladies are gonna love it for its cutesy, breezy beats and magical melodies. The fellas are gonna dig it 'cause it's gonna make said ladies' clothes fall right off upon first listen.

Shabazz Palaces

Shabazz Palaces - An Echo From The Hosts That Profess Infinitum
Shabazz Palaces - Youology

Other than an obligatory reference to a Digable Planets genealogy, I'm not quite sure how to segue into the exhaustive task of describing what's happening on Black Up. For the casual listener, this thing is gonna take a while to digest. Think out-of-the-box, avant-garde hip hop beats combined with swirling jazz/funk elements and an overlapping stream-of-consciousness-esque dialogue. The result is one interesting/eclectic mind-fuck of a long-player. Very tasty, indeed.

WU LYF - Dirt

100% Next Level! WU LYF (World Unite! Lucifer Youth Foundation) create devastatingly beautiful pop opuses. The Manchester, UK bros recently dropped Go Tell Fire To The Mountain and have been added to everybody's Next Big Band list... Simply put, think Explosions In The Sky meets Tom Waits, but poppy and anthemic.

Want more? Check out the bonus video of LYF, available after the jump.
