We've fawned over the Ringo Deathstarr crew and their My Bloody Valentine-influenced, shoe-gazey chord progressions/atmospheric goodness before in the past, and with Mauve - the follow-up to last year's Colour Trip full length - the Austin-based trio continues to craft their relentless barrage of solid, reverb-laden tracks and catchy, albeit somewhat visceral, anthems of noise. Let further fawning commence.

If the delightfully building/booming/crashing-down-all-around-you vein of post-rock (ala like-minded maestros Mogwai and EITS) hits your sweet-spot, then the lengthy introductions of swirling melodies, creeping percussion, and methodical/hypnotic guitar work - building up into an expansive cratering blast of majestic chords and chaos, of course - on Caspian's new full length is gonna get you a lil' chubby in the pants, for sure.

Been thoroughly enjoying the new Lymbyc Systym joint the past couple of days, and with all of the meandering orchestral maneuvers and soaring electro-chord progressions and sci-fi-esque goodness, like, everywhere on this thing, I'm fairly sure that fans of ambient-oriented, synthtrumental pop acts - think Tycho, Maserati, Tristeza (dunno - maybe I'm a bit off on these comparisons, but you get the point, right?) - are gonna fall head over heels for it as well.

I know these fellas have been around longer than a buncha you lil' kiddos, but we're actually old enough to have been fans well before the 2005 reunion, so new Dinosaur Jr. records always give us the sweet lil' nostalgic tingles, ya know? Hey old folks! There's a shit ton of infectious pop hooks, wailing guitar riffage, delightfully awkward-ish yet soothing and smooth-as-butter vocals, and gorgeous, reverby musical accoutrements strewn throughout I Bet On Sky, and it's exactly what you'd expect from J. Mascis & co. So there.

Tucked away this weekend, all post-RNC-nonsense/pre-Labor Day blow-out-style, the 8th edition of this multi-venue summertime classic is gonna showcase - per usual - an eclectic medley of talented local bands and anything goes out-of-towners, ie: David Dondero, The Owsley Bros, Bleubird, Rec Center, Chasing Kings, Easter Island, and a whole bunch more (cough, thee Liquid Jesus, cough).
