Washed Out

Washed Out - It All Feels Right
Washed Out - All I Know

Even more blissed-out melodies courtesy of Ernest Greene, aka: Washed Out, who's made a serious habit out of creating summery soundtracks for the season (see debut full length, Within And Without, and the delightful Life Of Leisure EP for additional dreaminess). The new Paracosm is no exception with trademark feel-good grooves and a thick instrumental haze swirling around, like, everywhere. You know you want it.

Paracosm will be released on August 13th, via Sub Pop

The Octopus Project

The Octopus Project - The Falls
The Octopus Project - Whitby

Anything goes, I guess - especially for the ever-eclectic electronic wizards in The Octopus Project, so while their last release, Hexadecagon, was a decidedly cerebral/conceptual exercise, the new Fever Forms is a return to the mostly breathless frenetic mixture of synth and tech guitar chords, pop beats, noise baubles, and ever-escalating momentum that made this quartet so much fun to listen to in the first place. Plus! the bonus disc contains even more 8-bit bleeps and bloops, digital noodling, and instrumental extras, if you're into that kind of thing.

Fever Forms is available via Peek-A-Boo Records

Soft Metals

Soft Metals - Tell Me
Soft Metals - Hourglass

Snaky disco beats, chilling vocal maneuvers, and wavering synth peals here on the follow-up to the self-titled Soft Metals release from a couple of years back. Lenses doubles down on the electronic haze and haunting italo-pop tinged grooves found on the debut, and its extra icy-cold atmospherics and nostalgic influences make for a wonderfully retro-riffic summertime treat.

Fuck Buttons

Fuck Buttons - Prince's Prize

Electro-noise duo Fuck Buttons have pieced together a brand new batch of textural tracks on the epic Slow Focus - seven of 'em, to be exact - spanning the course of nearly an hour of grinding noise, dirty sci-fi grooves, and churning electronic goodness galore, plus a shit-ton of tempo changes and beat switch-a-roos. For a better idea, imagine an amalgamation of vintage video-game montages, conspiracy theory cyber chatter, and brooding apocalyptic future OST-style space jams.

Slow Focus will be released on July 23rd, courtesy of ATP

Young Fathers

Young Fathers - I Heard
Young Fathers - Only Child

Tape Two is the follow-up to Young Fathers' rereleased Tape One debut dropped on Anticon a few months back - and I know it's a little difficult to pinpoint influences, but if you're familiar at all, then you already know there's a hella lot of 'em swirling around throughout the Young Fathers sound. Almost an overwhelming amount, actually - from hip hop to soul to reggae to some other, more undefined melding of genres all mixed up among the chanting group vocals and crunchy bass, synthesizers, and dense, percussion-laden beats.

Tape Two is available via Anticon.

Postiljonen

Postiljonen - We Raise Our Hearts
Postiljonen - Skying High

Just because you can't pronounce their name doesn't mean you should shy away from the sweet sounds of Swedish trio Postiljonen, am I right? So to better wrap your head 'round the sexy summer anthems on the soaring, utterly feel-good Skyer LP, think warm, airy vibes similar to M83 and maybe a few dreamy vocal melodies, ala The Naked And Famous, tossed in for good measure.

Of Montreal: Tonight!

Of Montreal

That's right, kiddos. Tonight's the culmination in what seems like a forever run-up to the very last show in the Imperial Theater, featuring avant-garde art rock troupe Of Montreal (+ bonus points for opening side project Yip Deceiver) and their fantastically flamboyant ultra elaborate stageshow slash experimental sexy psych-pop extravaganza. Man, I gotta tell you - I'm sick of waiting for this one, and I'm glad that this event is finally happening. I hear it's gonna be quite the party.

Beautiful Swimmers

Beautiful Swimmers - Swimmers Groove
Beautiful Swimmers - Big Coast

It's almost as if the very arrival of the dog days has summoned up Beautiful Swimmers and their new release, Son, as well, and with its ├╝ber-upbeat poolside party soundtrack sound that conjures up images of sweaty red solo cup tipples and backyard BBQ (think breezy, casio-inspired grooves and swanky electro-funk beats) it's a perfect fit for summer, for sure. Now if only it would stop raining.

Taurus Scott

Taurus Scott - You Don't Know Sh*t
Taurus Scott - Check Check

Low End Theory affiliate Taurus Scott released this self-titled exercise in creepy/crawly/crackly beat goodness way back in April, but that doesn't mean I can't continue to ponder over its wobbly sci-fi sounds right now. Fans of likeminded producer peeps Gaslamp Killer and/or Free The Robots (and pretty much anything Brainfeeder, one way or another) will undoubtedly get off on these tracks of weird and wonky instrumental loops, churning low end, and digital murk, as well.
